What is the Subconscious Mind?

It is your cells. It is your body. It is your soul. It is where everything is recorded. Explore the Many Jobs and How it Processes. Enjoy.

THE MANY JOBS OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

1. The number one job is to Preserve the body - Maintain the integrity of the body – If you were to get hit by a car, the subconscious mind will protect by using fight and flight mode.  When in extreme danger, many people have experienced that the subconscious mind takes over, meaning the conscious mind is not at all involved at the moment.

2. Stores memories – Temporal -time – Atemporal- unaffected by time

3. The domain of the emotions – For every thought a chemical is made and then distributed throughout the body.

4. To organize all memories - Time line, Gestalt, stores the memories in the nervous system.

5. To repress memories with unresolved negative emotions

6. To present repressed memories for “rationalization” - (to make rational and to release emotions)

7. To run the body - Has a blueprint of the body now, of perfect health (in the Higher Self)

8. May keep the repressed emotions repressed for protection

9. To be a highly moral being - The unconscious mind will enforce any morality which it has been taught and has come to believe is true.  If the unconscious mind thinks that you have been bad, then of course, you will have to be punished.

10. To be a servant, to follow orders, to obey – The subconscious mind receives directions from the conscious mind and obeys.  If you are not in charge and monitoring what you are thinking you may have many mental conflicts.  You could be sending many mixed messages.  Think of all the metaphors a person uses. Example: Gag me with a spoon.  I love you to death.

11. Control and maintain all perceptions – Telepathic and regular. Receives and transmits perceptions to the conscious mind – As information comes from outside the body, it is received by the sensory system creating a sensory perception experience which is then transmitted to the brain (neurology.) In order for it to be perceived by the conscious mind the information must pass through the subconscious mind.  The subconscious mind is in charge of filtering the massive amount of data that comes in, and making it manageable for understanding by conscious mind. We have approximately 2,000,000 bits of information coming into our sensory system.  The subconscious mind filters these down to a manageable size of seven, plus or minus two, chucks of information.

12. Generates, stores, and distributes the transmit “energy” - Acts as a manager.

13. Maintain instincts and generates habits - Some instincts are built-in at birth, such as the fight or flight response. Habits are cultivated over time. The subconscious mind is responsible for generating and maintaining both instincts and habits over time.

14. Needs repetition for long-term projects – In the conscious mind state, it is only remembered once to make it a long-term habit.  The subconscious mind requires you to repeat it over and over again until it becomes a fact.  The Subconscious mind is really in an on-going "now" most of the time, and so needs a fair amount of repetition to build a habit.

15. Programmed to continually seek more and more - Always more to discover – maybe that is why we are not satisfied.

16. Functions best as a whole integrated unit - Does not need parts to function

17. Symbolic - Uses and responds to symbols

18. Takes everything personally - Because the subconscious mind takes everything personally.  The good news is that what you like about your friend, is you. The bad news is that what you dislike about your friend, is you. The saying in psychology is, "Perception is projection." What you see is who you are.

19. Works on the principle of least effort - that means it will do as little as it can get away with. You must ask the subconscious mind when it will start and when it will finish the process.

20. Does not process negatives directly -  make sure you are telling your subconscious mind what to do, think, be; as opposed to telling it what not to do, think, be
